This achievement is evidenced by MDVC\u2019s success in achieving shared savings in the 2016 Medicare Shared Savings Program (MSSP) sponsored by the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS). The MSSP aims to encourage coordination and cooperation among providers to improve the quality of care for Medicare Fee-For-Service (FFS) beneficiaries and reduce unnecessary costs. The Program does this by encouraging the formation of Accountable Care Organizations (ACOs) which are groups of doctors and other health care providers who come together voluntarily to provide coordinated high quality care to their Medicare patients. Given that less than one-third of ACO\u2019s in 2016 achieved shared savings, this accomplishment illustrates the success and commitment of the physician members of MDVC as they worked together to improve patient satisfaction by coordinating care and providing high quality services in a cost-effective manner for their patients.<\/p>\n<p>In 2012, a group of independent, community-based physician practices came together around a vision to serve as leaders in patient care and clinical value. \u201cOur mission at MD Value Care is to achieve world class results in quality, patient experience and cost effectiveness,\u201d says Stephen Young, MD, Chair of the MDVC Board. MDVC currently serves over 14,000 Medicare patients in Central Virginia. The ACO includes the following 18 independent physician practices with over 450 physicians:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Chickahominy Family Practice<\/li>\n<li>Commonwealth Primary Care<\/li>\n<li>Dominion Medical Associates<\/li>\n<li>Dermatology Associates of Virginia<\/li>\n<li>Gastrointestinal Specialists, Inc.<\/li>\n<li>Neurosurgical Associates<\/li>\n<li>OrthoVirginia<\/li>\n<li>Pulmonary Associates of Richmond<\/li>\n<li>Richmond Gastroenterology Associates<\/li>\n<li>Vascular Surgery Associates<\/li>\n<li>Virginia Cancer Institute<\/li>\n<li>Virginia Cardiovascular Specialists<\/li>\n<li>Virginia Diabetes and Endocrinology<\/li>\n<li>Virginia Ear, Nose, and Throat Associates<\/li>\n<li>Virginia Eye Institute<\/li>\n<li>Virginia Physicians for Women<\/li>\n<li>Virginia Urology<\/li>\n<li>Virginia Women\u2019s Center<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>\u201cAchieving the \u201ctriple aim\u201d illustrates to our patients that MDVC physicians provide top notch care in a cost-effective manner. This cost savings means not only savings for the Medicare program but also for our patients in the form of lower co-pay requirements, reduced medication expenses and more affordable treatment options,\u201d says Dr. J. Kenneth Zelenak, Medical Director for MD Value Care. \u201cEverything we do is with a focus on what is best for our patients \u2013 from a quality and cost perspective.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMDVC achieved the highest quality score (98.99%) of any ACO sharing savings in<br \/>\nVirginia in 2016,\u201d said Stephen L. Quality improvement has been demonstrated in patient satisfaction, avoidable hospitalizations and care metrics proven to improve patient outcomes and prolong life.
